Phenomena such as volcanoes, earthquakes, floods, or thunderstorms are natural disasters that humans coexist with daily, but science finds it difficult to explain or warn them. Every month our planet is shaken by about 80,000 earthquakes caused by the movement of tectonic plates, but most of them are almost insensitive. Power earthquake 6.8 Richter hit Albania, considered powerful and around the world recorded about 120 such shakes each year.

Taking advantage of the situation created after the November 26 earthquake, which heightened fear and insecurity in the hearts of the people, the Department of Mualims at the Albanian Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization organized the event: “Earthquakes, Invitation for Reflection by Builders and Memory for believers ”, where Dr. Edvin Ruka, scholar of Islamic sciences, and architect Ersen Dedja.

After the opening of the activity by the Head of the Department of Mutuals, Mr. Pigeon Jaupi, Dr. Edwin Ruka who considered natural disasters a phenomenon that should serve as a reminder and warning. It is now well established that industrial development has also had a negative impact, especially on environmental pollution or the disappearance of fauna. Although one cannot fully explain many of these phenomena such as floods, earthquakes, storms, volcanoes, they are mentioned in the Qur’an, which is indicative of the truth of the Holy Book and of the importance of believing in God as the Creator of all. . He advised increasing prayers and thanksgiving to the Lord as a condolence to disasters, but also as the best way to improve man and society.

As the architect Ersen Dedja explained some of the causes of earthquakes from a scientific point of view, their consequences on the environment and human mistakes that endanger our lives. Initially, he focused on the structure and composition of the earth. He then made an earthquake classification according to the force of the Richter scale, by depth and vibration. Although earthquakes are unexpected and cannot be predicted, the measures taken to prevent the damage caused by them are largely in the safety of buildings. Every builder must abide by the norms of the legislation in force, which in Albania requires buildings to withstand oscillations of up to 9 on the Richter scale. According to him, unconditional construction and non-implementation of technical security conditions in our country are the main causes of material and human damage from earthquakes.

The meeting was also welcomed by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of AIITC, Dr. Faruk Borova. Attendees had the opportunity to discuss and direct questions on the topics discussed in this meeting, both informative and informative.
